Tourists will be able to fly to Almaty, and from there quickly get to the lake

A tourist road with electric buses will be laid between Almaty and Issyk-Kul

The authorities of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed on the creation of a new cross-border route from the Kazakh metropolis of Almaty to the Kyrgyz lake Issyk-Kul.

It is rightfully considered the pearl of Central Asia. The width of the lake surrounded by mountains reaches 50 km, the length is more than 100 km. Many call it the sea. There is clear water and magnificent beaches.

The nearest major city to Issyk-Kul is Almaty. More than 2 million people live in the former capital of Kazakhstan. The lake itself is located in Kyrgyzstan. After the collapse of the USSR, residents and guests of Almaty are forced to cross the state border to get to Issyk-Kul.

In addition, only an old road leads to the lake. In a straight line from Almaty to Issyk-Kul is only 80 km. But due to the difficult mountainous terrain, the current road stretches for 460 km around Bishkek. It will take more than 6 hours to drive along it.

The new route will reduce travel time by almost half. It will pass from Almaty to Uzunagash, then to the Kastek border pass, then to Kemin and Issyk-Kul. Its end point is the city of Cholpon-Ata on the shore of the lake.

They promise to launch electric buses along the new route. Tourists from all over the world, incl. from Russia, they will be able to fly to Almaty, where the tourist infrastructure is developed, and from there it is comfortable to get to Issyk-Kul.
