Chinese citizens have been rioting en masse against covid restrictions in recent days

China opens for Russian tourists despite pandemic and protests

China opens for tourists from Russia, despite the pandemic and protests requirements for Russian tourists for the first time since the start of the pandemic in 2020.

Then, the Chinese authorities completely closed the borders for foreign tourists and suspended the flights of many airlines. It was possible to enter the country only on a diplomatic, service or study visa.

Later, the authorities somewhat simplified entry for those vaccinated with the Chinese vaccine. Since May 1, Hong Kong has allowed entry with Sputnik V and lifted mandatory quarantine. Since November, one negative PCR test is enough to board a flight to China.

As for visas, during the pandemic, China issued them to Russians only under emergency circumstances. Now, according to Jiang Xiaoyang, Consul General of China in the Russian Federation, Beijing is fully returning to the requirements that were before the pandemic.

“Now that the pandemic has subsided, the Consulate General is simplifying visa procedures. Citizens of Russia can apply for crew, guest, work, business, family and long-term study visas, — said the diplomat.

His words came amid numerous protests across the PRC. Normally, law-abiding Chinese rebel en masse against covid restrictions, which are constantly reintroduced here and there, as outbreaks of the disease.
