From the checkpoint «Eagle Rocks» a forest path begins, along which benches for rest are installed. In the upper part of the route, the trail runs along the very edge of the cliff, fenced with metal railings.
The vertical cliffs of the Eagle Rocks, 125 meters high, are covered with light limestone and sandstone, which is why they are also called White. The better known name «Eagle Rocks» appeared because eagles nested in the gorge. Pitsunda pine grows right on the sheer cliffs.
About 15 karst caves were discovered in the Eagle Rocks area, the largest of which is located at a depth of 15 meters. The caves are inaccessible, but fans of extreme sports can climb the rock like real climbers. Climbing «via ferrata» is carried out in compliance with all safety measures, accompanied by a professional instructor. excursion description

After walking a little more along the path, we ended up at an observation deck and a monument to Prometheus. This is the epicenter of the route, where everyone stops for a picnic and take pictures.
The views from a height of 379 meters above sea level are really mesmerizing: Mount Akhun, Chugush (3238 m), Achishkho (2391 m), Pseashkho (3227 m), Sugarloaf (1550 m), Aibga ridge. Below, in the Agur Gorge, the Agura River flows and the Upper Agur Falls are clearly visible.
The statue of Prometheus appeared on the top of the Eagle Rocks in 1998, its author — Siberian sculptor A.N. Kapralov. The two-meter hero of ancient Greek mythology stands on a pedestal made of stones. According to local legend, this is where Prometheus was chained to a rock.
The Caucasian legend of Prometheus and Agura
To punish Prometheus, who gave fire to people, Zeus chained him to the impregnable rocks of the Caucasus, where no man had set foot. The god Akhyn, who lived on the top of Mount Akhun, was put on guard. Every evening, an eagle flew to Prometheus and pecked at his liver, increasing suffering.
A young girl Agura, who lived in these places, took pity on Prometheus and began to bring him water and wash his wounds. This went on until Ahyn found out about it. The angry god threw Aruga off the cliff and turned it into a torrent — this is how the Agura river appeared.

When Prometheus was freed by another ancient Greek hero — Hercules, he went down to his beloved Agura, took a piece of rock and melted it into metal, making a ring out of it. In winter, when Agoura gets cold, Prometheus Rock throws down warm stones, so the river never freezes.
From the statue of Prometheus, you can go down to a small grotto (Prometheus cave), paying 150 rubles for the tour. Around the first observation deck there is a recreation area with gazebos and a cafe «Prometheus». It didn't work in April. The reviews praise pancakes and herbal tea, prices are above average.
The route to the Eagle Rocks ends at the second observation deck, the views from which are no different. Hiding in the trees between them is a statue of the «Goddess Fortune» — make a wish.
The path from Eagle Rocks descends to the confluence of the Agura River with its tributary Agurchik. This is a very picturesque place and a fork of two routes: to Mount Akhun and Agur waterfalls. A suspension bridge is thrown across the river.
You can return to Matsesta by the same path that you went there or go down the technical road starting from the grotto. We were so inspired by the views from the Eagle Rocks that we decided to go further to the Agur Gorge.
