TOP 5 named directions of domestic tourism in the Russian Federation this summer

The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) named the five most popular domestic tourism destinations in the Russian Federation in the summer of 2022.

This year, due to the conflict in Ukraine and Western sanctions, Russians have lost the opportunity to relax in Europe with the same ease. Therefore, many people rushed en masse to domestic resorts.

In the first place in terms of popularity, as expected, was the Krasnodar Territory (about 50% of all tourists). Sochi became the most visited city there. Tourist flow to Anapa and Gelendzhik has seriously decreased, because. local airports are closed due to the conflict in Ukraine.

The second placeis the North Caucasus. This summer, Russians massively rushed to the mountains and resorts of the Caucasian mineral waters. The number of tourists in Dagestan has increased many times over.

In third place – St. Petersburg. People went to the cultural capital not only for museums and palaces, but also for beach holidays in resort towns on the shores of the Gulf of Finland: Komarov, Sestroretsk, Zelenogorsk. However, the summer of 2022 turned out to be cold, so there was no real opportunity to sunbathe on the beach near St. Petersburg.

Fourth and fifth placeswere distributed in an unusual way. Surprisingly, Moscow and the Moscow region have overtaken Crimea in popularity.
