The global tourism sector grew by 182% in the first quarter of 2022 amid a global recovery in tourism thanks to the easing of covid restrictions, according to the World Tourism Organization.
"In January-March 2022, international tourism indicators increased by 182% compared to the same period last year. In total, 117 million tourists were admitted to various destinations around the world compared to 41 million in the first quarter of 2021,” the report says.
Globally, the number of international flights almost tripled in the 1st quarter. Europe received almost four times more tourist flights (+280%). In the Americas, flights more than doubled (+117%). However, these figures are still 43% and 46% below the pre-Covid levels of 2019.
