The third stage of the development of the master plan for the tourist macro-region “Far East” has been completed

Deputy head of Rostourism Elena Lysenkova spoke about this during the expert session “Development of tourism in the Kamchatka Territory as part of the Far East tourist macroregion”, which was held in the Kamchatka Territory. The event was also attended by the governor of the region Vladimir Solodov and the head of the Project Office of ProGorod LLC Ksenia Titova.

“This stage of work on the tourism master plan requires special involvement of the region and all members of the working group so that all key points and directions are adjusted in accordance with the socio-economic concept of the development of the subject,” Elena Lysenkova noted. According to her, the main driver of tourism development in the macroregion is  the territory of the Far East itself – its natural and cultural-historical potential.

As a result of the implementation of the master plan for the tourist macro-region “Far East” four new all-season resorts will appear on the territory of the Kamchatka Territory. This will reduce the seasonality factor and increase the quality of the room stock in the region by 2,200 rooms. In total, as part of the implementation of the master plan, by 2035 the number of rooms in the region will increase by 3.2 times – up to 8650 numbers.

“It is very important to essentially delve into the developed materials, ensure that they are implemented in the form of practical solutions, and are the basis of our tourism development strategy and certain urban planning, spatial solutions,” Vladimir Solodov noted.

The analysis carried out as part of the development of a tourist master plan shows that now the average duration of tourists' stay in the Kamchatka Territory in the summer – 8-12 days, in winter – 7-8 days. On average, the cost of travel per tourist is 105,000 rubles, of which 30% is transportation costs. The vast majority (87%) of travelers come to the region alone, without a couple or children. In turn, the creation of a modern multifunctional tourist infrastructure and the formation of new proposals will make it possible to qualitatively change the tourist flow to the region, expanding the target groups, including families with children, which always positively affects the economic performance of the industry.

< p style="text-align: justify">“The main types of tourism that now prevail in the Far East were analyzed: this is nature and ecological tourism, hunting and fishing can be distinguished separately. We see medical and health tourism based on the thermal and balneological resources of the region as one of the main drivers. The important thing is that they – all-season and this is a great advantage, which, among other things, will allow increasing the tourist flow to Kamchatka up to 740 thousand trips per year by 2035 (+ 126% by 2021),” Ksenia Titova noted. She also emphasized that all activities for the implementation of the master plan are calculated taking into account the anthropogenic load and the preservation of the unique ecosystem of the region.

The project is being developed on behalf of the Government of the Russian Federation and will be completed 2022
