Tourists harm Baikal more than a pulp mill – authorities< /i>
The damage to Lake Baikal from wild tourism is greater than from the waste of the Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill, said Sergey Ivanov, special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for environmental protection, ecology and transport.
According to him, such tourism should be stopped. “Millions of savages put up tents on the shores, and the hotels built in Listvyanka and other settlements are not equipped with wastewater treatment facilities,” the official said and offered to put things in order on the shores of Lake Baikal.
