Unexpected growth. The volume of air transportation in Russia has increased

The volume of passenger traffic of foreign airlines to/from Russia has increased since the beginning of this of the year. The German magazine Focus calls this “unexpected”.

In total, from January to September, the number of air passengers in Russia increased by 11% compared to the same period last year, to 21.7 million people. Experts attribute this to the low base effect: in 2021, the market was strongly affected by the pandemic, people did not fly much on planes. In Europe, because of this, airlines showed growth by as much as 20%.

It is interesting that the increase in the number of passengers did not enrich Russian airlines. Due to sanctions, many foreign destinations are closed to them. The number of their clients has fallen from 16 million to 13 million.

But foreigners have benefited because transport Russians around the world with several transfers. Instead of 4, they transported as many as 8.6 million citizens of the Russian Federation. To date, 39 international airlines continue to operate with the country.
