One of the main film festivals in Europe has started in Cannes. The 75th Cannes Film Festival will take place from 17 to 28 May and the winners will be announced by an international jury chaired by French actor Vincent Lindon. With the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, the film festival announced a ban on any state representation of Russia and denied accreditation to all journalists from the official Russian media. But this does not mean that the festival will be held completely without the Russians. The film directed by Kirill Serebrennikov “Tchaikovsky's Wife” will take part in the competition. They will also show fragments of Serebrennikov's new English-language painting Limonov, a ballad about Edichka, which is still in the works. The film is based on a biography written by French writer Emmanuel Carrera. Limonov is played by British actor Ben Whishaw. Alexander Sokurov's new film “Fairy Tale” was supposed to arrive, but the director himself refused to participate in the festival. According to the media, one of the reasons was the exclusion from the program of his graduate Malika Musayeva, which Sokurov called discrimination. Sergey Loznitsa brought to the show a new painting “Natural History of Destruction”, which will represent Ukraine. The director was born in Belarus, but studied and filmed a lot in Ukraine. His painting “Donbass” won the 2018 Un Certain Regard Director's Award. It is known that the new film by Sergei Loznitsa explores Germany's reaction to the Allied bombing in the last years of World War II and is inspired by the book of the German writer Winfried Georg Sebald. As noted on the Cannes website, the film raises questions about the morality and acceptability of using civilians as a weapon of war. The program of special screenings of the festival includes a documentary by Lithuanian director Mantas Kvedaravichyus about Mariupol, in April the director died while working on the film. David Cronenberg's new painting “Crime of the Future” is participating in the main competition. Starring – Viggo Mortensen, Lea Seydoux and Kristen Stewart. The Dardenne brothers, whose films have won numerous awards at the festival, brought the film “Tori and Lokita”, which tells the story of two young refugees from Africa. Sweden's Ruben Östlund won the festival in 2018 with Square, his new black comedy Triangle of Sorrow. tells about the passengers of a cruise ship, led by the captain (Woody Harrelson), who ended up on the island after the crash. Another documentary project “Dreams of the Age of the Moon” talk about the legendary man David Bowie. Oscar nominee Brett Morgen got access to the archives of the musician's family. Frenchman Quentin Dupier brought another strange social parody “Smoking causes a cough” with the star of the painting “The Life of Adele” Starring Adele Exarchopoulos.
